At Wired for Learning we believe we’re all wired to learn, but how we learn best looks different from person to person. Which is why we’ve developed an easy to use tool that helps you identify your child’s learning style and dominance profile, provides you with tips for supporting them, and outlines exercises to help them thrive. We’re going to run through the theory behind how it works and why it’s a great addition to your child’s education.
The theory behind the process
The principles of brain and body dominance testing and the lessons we can learn from it are based on research carried out by Dr Carla Hannaford. A true pioneer in dominance profiling, she’s worked with over 3,000 students throughout her 40 years of experience. The reports also include other innovative approaches from those in the world of education such as Dr Paul Dennison’ Brain Gym(r) and Professor Deborah Stevens-Smith who worked closely with us while developing the questionnaire.
Every child has the ability to learn but they are often not doing so in the optimum conditions for them. The assessment we developed has been found to be a reliable and valid instrument for testing brain dominance, allowing you to optimise your child’s learning. It’s a truly innovative approach that can be accessed by anyone, levelling the playfield in education.
The process
By bringing together these unique approaches we have created a tool that allows you to quickly identify your child’s dominance profile. Based on this we then make recommendations for techniques and exercises to optimise their learning.
Through five easy tests covering the eyes, ears, feet, hands, and brain hemisphere you’re able to unlock your child’s full potential. The best part is that all you need is a piece of plain paper with a hole in the middle to carry out each of the assessments - no fancy equipment in sight. Each test can be done at home so your child remains in a comfortable environment. Designed to be instinctive, we recommend that the adult watches the instruction video in full before allowing the child to enter the room and carry out the next test.
Once you’ve completed all five assessments we generate a report that outlines your child’s dominance profile. Included in this report are recommendations for learning and study techniques, teaching strategies, and stress management tools to help them embrace their natural learning style. Covering things such as where they should sit in the classroom, ways they can reduce stress, and many other techniques designed to help them harness their inner power.
It works!
The four Wired for Learning Body Dominance tests were developed over ten years by working closely with students in schools and clinics across the world to create something truly unique. Professor Deborah Stevens-Smith (now retired) from Clemson University ensured that the basis of our questionnaire was a reliable and valid instrument for testing brain dominance. We know it works because we’ve seen it!
